A retired police officer took decisive action to save passengers from a burning boat at the Metropolitan Yacht Club in Braintree on Saturday morning, August 12.
The boat, which had just docked for refueling, suddenly burst into flames, prompting a response from the local fire department.
The fire broke out on the fueling dock of the Metropolitan Yacht Club, about 14 miles south of Boston.
As soon as the retired city cop noticed the blaze, he sprang into action. Using his own boat, he moved the burning craft away from the gasoline and other nearby vessels, averting a potential disaster.
Ten people were on board the boat at the time – six adults and four children, including an infant. Two of the children were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, while two adults sustained significant burns. Another woman received medical treatment for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
Video footage from WCVB captured the aftermath of the incident, showing the charred remains of the capsized boat floating in the water.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
