The setup lasted less than a minute before the room caught the joke that wasn’t really a joke. Onstage on August 21, 2026, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., country star Keith Urban, 58, introduced “We Go Back” as the story of two small-town kids who paired off young, until the guy ruined it. Then the singer paused and added: “I will do that.”
By the time the chorus came back around, he was wiping tears from his cheeks.
The moment was caught on video from the concert. It arrived months after a January 2026 ruling finalized his divorce from actress Nicole Kidman, and just weeks after photographers twice spotted Kidman in the company of an American businessman. At no point did Urban suggest that the song, or the emotion it pulled out of him, was connected to his ex-wife.
A Breakup Ballad and a Tear
“Flow State,” the album Urban released in June 2026 — seven months after a judge in Nashville formally ended his marriage — carries “We Go Back,” its lone original among a set of yacht-rock covers. From the stage he laid out the plot plainly: two people who grew up on the same streets, the first couple among their friends, and a single mistake that cost the man everything.

A few songs later, Urban crouched at the edge of the stage, wiped away a tear and smiled out at the sold-out audience, which responded with cheers and applause. He picked his microphone back up and said nights like that one are the reason he keeps returning to Atlantic City.
The End of a 19-Year Marriage
They met at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles in January 2005 and married in Sydney in June 2006. For nearly 20 years, both Hollywood and country music regarded the couple as a rare constant. Sunday Rose, their daughter, was born in 2008 and Faith Margaret followed in 2010; the girls are now 18 and 15. Kidman, 59, is also mother to Bella and Connor, whom she adopted during her marriage to actor Tom Cruise.
On September 30, 2025, Kidman filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences after 19 years of marriage. Reportedly, the two had been living separately since the start of that summer. Both agreed in the settlement to waive rights to child and spousal support.
