Barron Trump, the 20-year-old son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, has become the subject of scrutiny after reports revealed ties to controversial influencer Andrew Tate and figures in the online “manosphere” community.
A New York Times investigation reported that the president’s youngest son forged a relationship with Andrew Tate beginning in 2024. Tate, a former kickboxer who styles himself the “king of toxic masculinity,” faces serious criminal accusations in multiple countries. Romanian prosecutors have charged him with rape and human trafficking, while British authorities have filed 21 counts against the brothers, including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking involving several women.
The link between Barron and the Tate circle emerged through Justin Waller, a Louisiana-born influencer who calls himself the “third [Tate] brother.” Waller has publicly described his friendship with Barron, saying he visited Mar-a-Lago four or five times and has acted as a mentor to the youngest Trump.
“I had dinner with Barron at Mar-a-Lago. I met Donald that night,” Waller said in the Netflix documentary “Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere.” The dinner reportedly took place in spring 2024 and was hosted by Barron at the Palm Beach resort.
Waller moved from Louisiana to South Florida to advance his career and gain proximity to the Trump family’s circle. He promotes traditional gender hierarchies and what he calls “one-sided monogamy”—views aligned with the wider manosphere movement that emphasizes male dominance.
The connection between Barron and Tate associates appears to go beyond casual interaction. According to Waller’s statements to The New York Times, he and Barron joined a Zoom call with Andrew Tate while Barron was getting a suit fitted by Waller’s tailor. They discussed the Romanian criminal case against the Tate brothers. Waller said Barron did not explicitly offer to help with their legal matters, though they talked about how the Tates might support Trump’s presidential campaign through their online platforms.
Andrew and Tristan Tate ran a webcam pornography operation for about a decade, boasting about recruiting women to create sexual content for paying customers while keeping most of the profits. Romanian prosecutors allege they trafficked women using the “loverboy method”—pretending romantic interest to manipulate victims. Andrew Tate also faces accusations of rape and sexual activity with a minor. Both brothers deny the charges.
Criminal probes into the Tate brothers began in 2022. Romanian courts had barred them from leaving the country for years while prosecutors built their case. In February 2025, Romania unexpectedly lifted the travel ban, allowing the brothers to fly to Florida on a private jet.
The timing drew attention. Investigative reporter Megan Twohey of The New York Times reported that Richard Grenell, a Trump diplomatic envoy, spoke with Romanian officials about the Tates’ case at least twice. Days after the second discussion, Romanian authorities instructed prosecutors to reach an agreement with the brothers—an approach prosecutors opposed. Romania’s then-prime minister reportedly thought the move would appease the Trump administration.
The White House is accused of assisting the Tate brothers after the 2024 election. According to ProPublica, Paul Ingrassia—a former lawyer for the Tate brothers who later served as the White House’s DHS liaison—intervened after Customs and Border Protection seized the brothers’ electronic devices when they arrived in Florida. Ingrassia allegedly demanded the devices be returned, saying the instruction came from the White House. His attorney has denied these assertions. The episode prompted a Senate inquiry into possible interference with a federal investigation.
Andrew Tate has built ties with several prominent American conservatives, including Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Donald Trump Jr., who defended the brothers online. Tate has claimed to be “very close to the Trump family.”
Barron’s influence is said to extend beyond personal connections. Campaign officials credited him with urging his father’s 2024 presidential campaign to use long-form podcasts and online personalities popular with young men—a tactic that became central to President Trump’s media strategy.
Waller acknowledged the strategic benefit of his relationship with the president’s son, telling The New York Times that Barron is “not a bad ally to have—let’s be frank.”
The youngest Trump was seen at Mar-a-Lago on Christmas Day 2025, one of his few public sightings since the controversy surfaced. Other manosphere figures also claim proximity to the Trump family, including Nicolas Kenn De Balinthazy, known online as Sneako, who attended the president’s inauguration and has said that “women should not vote.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly said the Tate brothers were unwelcome in his state after their February arrival, and the state attorney general opened a preliminary inquiry. The brothers face ongoing criminal proceedings in Romania and are expected to be extradited to the United Kingdom once those matters are settled.
Barron Trump has not publicly addressed his connections to Waller or the Tate brothers. He has not been accused of wrongdoing, and no public evidence shows he directly intervened in the Tates’ legal issues. The 20-year-old continues to lead a largely private life while attending NYU’s Washington campus, though his ties to controversial online figures have placed him under increased public scrutiny.
