The body of a 35-year-old Eldon, Missouri, woman, who went missing while en route to collect her children, has been discovered following a car crash in Miller County.
The death of Amanda Rodgers was officially confirmed at 1:43 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2026, by Coroner Caleb Shelton, concluding a search that lasted for a week and caused authorities to issue an Endangered Person Advisory.
Rodgers went missing on Jan. 26 when she departed from Eldon to retrieve her children from the Camdenton area. Her failure to arrive sparked concern among family members and authorities, leading to the initiation of a search for the missing woman.
An Endangered Person Advisory concerning Rodgers was released by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31. Rodgers was known to be driving a 2003 tan Chevrolet Malibu at the time of her disappearance.
A deputy from the Miller County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle along U.S. 54 near Howser Road. The County Coroner’s Office reported that “Ms. Rodgers’ vehicle was located off the roadway and hidden by a fallen tree, making it hard to spot from the roadway.”
The poor visibility caused by the fallen tree likely led to the late discovery of the vehicle. After Rodgers failed to handle a curve, the car left the road and flipped over. It then skidded into a wooded area where it was concealed by the fallen tree.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol estimates that the crash occurred on or around Jan. 26, suggesting that Rodgers’ vehicle remained undiscovered for about a week. The patrol is carrying out an investigation into the crash in conjunction with the Miller County Coroner’s Office.
It can often be challenging to detect motor vehicle crashes on rural highways, particularly when vehicles veer off the road and are obscured by natural elements like trees or terrain. Highway 54, which connects several communities in central Missouri, requires careful navigation due to its curves, especially in winter conditions.
Rodgers’ death is not considered suspicious, and it seems to be an accident. However, the investigation is still ongoing in accordance with Missouri law, which requires coroner’s offices to investigate all deaths under specific circumstances, including those resulting from car accidents.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Miller County Sheriff’s Office in the search efforts. It is common for multiple law enforcement agencies to coordinate in missing person cases when the individual’s last known location and potential travel route cross different jurisdictions.
The highway patrol disclosed the details of the fatal crash following the discovery. Specialists in crash reconstruction from the patrol are investigating elements like road conditions, vehicle speed, visibility, mechanical failures, and driver behavior to understand the events leading up to the crash.
The Miller County Coroner’s Office expressed its “deepest condolences to Ms. Rodgers’ family and loved ones during this difficult time,” according to officials.
The office stated that no further details would be shared to respect the family’s privacy. This approach is typical in death investigations, especially in cases involving accidental deaths, as authorities balance the need for public information with the family’s privacy during their time of grief.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Miller County Coroner’s Office will continue their investigation to identify all contributing factors to the crash. These results may lead to future safety recommendations for the section of Highway 54 where the accident occurred.
