A 53-year-old Filipino tourist died after losing consciousness while riding the Frozen Ever After attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort on August 29, 2025. The man collapsed during the boat ride at approximately 10 a.m. local time and was pronounced dead at North Lantau Hospital at 11:30 a.m.
The tourist’s wife immediately alerted staff when she discovered her husband had fallen into a coma during the ride. Cast members performed first aid and CPR as the boat prepared to dock, according to park officials. Emergency responders then transported him to North Lantau Hospital, located on the same island as the theme park.
A Hong Kong Disneyland Resort spokesperson stated that “our initial investigation has shown the incident is not related to ride safety.” The park representative indicated that the guest had a pre-existing medical condition, which family members later confirmed to authorities.
According to reports, the man’s wife informed police that her husband suffered from heart disease and high blood pressure, conditions that had persisted for approximately 10 years. These health issues required regular medication and medical follow-up visits. The South China Morning Post confirmed that police received the initial report at 10:18 a.m. local time.
The Frozen Ever After attraction is a slow-moving boat ride located in Disney’s World of Frozen themed area, which represents the company’s first land dedicated entirely to the popular film franchise. The ride opened in November 2023 and features scenes from the animated movie, with no age limits or height restrictions for guests.
Hong Kong Disneyland officials expressed their condolences following the incident. A resort spokesperson told media outlets that the theme park deeply regrets the guest’s passing and will provide necessary assistance to his family during this difficult time.
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong confirmed the incident and announced it was coordinating with local authorities to assist the family in repatriating the man’s body. The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs indicated that the consulate continues working with concerned institutions while respecting the family’s privacy.
Following the incident, Hong Kong Disneyland announced that the Frozen Ever After ride would be temporarily suspended due to operational adjustments. The closure, scheduled from August 31 through September 19, 2025, was reportedly planned before the tourist’s death occurred.
The attraction remains part of the World of Frozen themed area, which has been operational since late 2023. While the ride welcomes guests of all ages and heights, pregnant women receive advisories against participating in the attraction.
This incident marks a rare medical emergency at the Hong Kong theme park. The resort’s initial investigation concluded that ride safety mechanisms functioned properly and did not contribute to the guest’s medical episode. Park officials emphasized that the man’s pre-existing heart condition and hypertension appeared to be factors in his sudden loss of consciousness.
The Filipino tourist had been visiting the park with his wife when the medical emergency occurred. Staff members responded immediately to provide emergency care, but the man’s underlying health conditions proved fatal despite rapid medical intervention.
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort continues operating its other attractions while the Frozen Ever After ride remains closed for the scheduled maintenance period. The park has not announced any additional safety reviews or operational changes related to the incident.
