The father of Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown was arrested and charged with attempted murder following a stabbing incident in a Las Vegas parking lot on Wednesday evening, August 21, 2025. Quenton Marselles Brown, 57, allegedly stabbed a youth football coach multiple times during a dispute that began over a minor car collision.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:42 p.m. Pacific Time on South Buffalo Drive near All American Park. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report, the altercation began when Brown, who was a passenger in an SUV, opened his door and dinged the victim’s car while parking. The victim got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage, leading to an immediate confrontation with Brown.
Witnesses told police that Brown became confrontational and engaged in a heated verbal argument with the victim. The victim’s girlfriend, who was present during the incident, reported seeing her boyfriend slap the side mirror of Brown’s SUV during the exchange. The verbal dispute quickly escalated when Brown allegedly produced an unknown object and stabbed the victim in the back.
According to witness statements in the police report, one observer told investigators that Brown “swung his knife 25 times” at the victim during the attack. The victim and his girlfriend managed to drive away from the scene and waited at a different location for first responders to arrive.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where medical staff described his condition as critical. Attending physicians told police the man sustained extensive injuries, including a stab wound in the middle of his back, a stab wound in his upper right chest clavicle area, and a defensive wound to his left hand that penetrated to his tendons. The victim also suffered a slice wound that required a partial gastrectomy to remove part of his digestive system, eviscerated bowels, and a broken right rib that may require surgery to repair.
Brown fled the scene following the stabbing but was located and detained by police a short distance away. Officers noted that Brown’s clothing had blood on it during his arrest, though they did not recover the weapon allegedly used in the attack. Brown was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Thursday morning and charged with attempted murder.
During his initial court appearance on Thursday afternoon, Brown’s bail was set at $300,000. He was released on bail after posting the $300,000 bond. According to court records, he was granted release under high-level electronic monitoring and a directive to “stay out of trouble.” Brown is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, September 9, for a preliminary hearing.
Brown’s attorney, Arnold Weinstock, told local media that his client was acting in self-defense and claimed the victim had a gun and struck Brown on the head with it. However, these details were not included in the official police report.
Brown, who goes by his middle name Marselles, is a retired professional boxer who made his debut in 1989 and compiled a record of 33 wins, 18 losses, and one draw during his career. Multiple sources confirmed through records searches that he is the father of the Boston Celtics guard.
Jaylen Brown, 27, has been a cornerstone of the Celtics since being drafted by the team in the first round in 2016. The four-time NBA All-Star was named Finals MVP in 2024 when Boston captured their 18th NBA championship. The Celtics organization has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the arrest of the player’s father.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the incident. The case highlights the serious nature of the charges, with attempted murder carrying significant potential penalties under Nevada state law. The victim remains hospitalized as he recovers from the extensive injuries sustained during the attack.
