Actor Dies After Fall From Building

Chinese actor and singer Yu Menglong died on September 11, 2025, after falling from a high-rise building in Beijing, China. The 37-year-old performer, best known for his roles in popular television series including “Go Princess Go” and “Eternal Love,” passed away in the Chaoyang district of the capital city.

Yu’s mother revealed the circumstances surrounding her son’s death in a statement released through his management company on September 16. According to Global Times, she disclosed that Yu died from an accidental fall from a building while under the influence of alcohol. The mother indicated that public security authorities informed her of the investigation results and that the aftermath had been properly handled.

Initial reports about Yu’s death surfaced early on September 11 through social media posts by entertainment bloggers on Weibo. According to these accounts, Yu had been at a gathering with five to six friends at an apartment on the evening of September 10. Around 2:00 a.m. on September 11, he went to a bedroom and locked the door from inside. When his friends prepared to leave around 6:00 a.m., they could not locate him and discovered his body on the ground floor of the building.

Police investigations ruled out any criminal activity in connection with Yu’s death. His management team confirmed the findings in an official statement posted on social media, expressing that police have ruled out any criminality and requesting that loved ones remain strong during this difficult time.

Born on June 15, 1988, in Urumqi in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Yu initially gained prominence as a singer through talent competitions. He participated in Shanghai Media Group’s “My Show! My Style!” in 2007, reaching the Top 16 for Xi’an province. He later competed in Hunan TV’s “Super Boy” contest in 2010 and again in 2013, when he advanced to the Top 10 and released his first single “Just Nice.”

Yu transitioned to acting with his debut in the 2011 short film “The Little Prince.” His breakthrough came in 2015 with his role in the period drama “Go Princess Go,” which brought him international recognition. The following year marked another career milestone when he starred in the fantasy romance series “Eternal Love” alongside prominent actors Yang Mi, Mark Chao, and Dilraba Dilmurat.

Throughout his career, Yu appeared in numerous popular productions including “Xuan-Yuan Sword: Han Cloud,” “Legend of the White Snake” with Ju Jingyi, “Who’s Not Rebellious Youth,” and “Unstoppable Youth.” His most recent work included the 2025 series “Feud” and the completed filming of “Journey to the End of the Night” in late June. Two films featuring Yu, “The Fated General” and “Traditional Chinese Medicine,” were scheduled for release this year.

Beyond acting, Yu maintained a successful music career, releasing two albums: “Toy” in 2015 and “Yu Menglong” in 2017. His achievements in entertainment earned him multiple accolades, including Best New Artist at the 2017 Weibo TV Online Video Awards, Most Popular All-Rounded Artist at the 2017 Asian Music Gala, and Breakthrough Actor of the Year at the 2019 Golden Bud Network Film and Television Festival.

Yu’s professional dedication was evident even when facing personal challenges. While filming “The Love Lasts Two Minds,” he sustained an eye injury from a prop that affected his vision. Despite viewer criticism about his appearance in the drama, Yu chose not to publicly explain the injury, instead acknowledging on social media that his performance wasn’t perfect but pledging to work harder.

The actor maintained a significant social media presence with over 26 million followers on Weibo. His posts frequently featured gym workouts, nature walks, and daily activities, regularly drawing more than 10,000 comments from fans. His final public appearance occurred on May 31, 2025, during CCTV’s Dragon Boat Festival program, where viewers praised his performance and Tang Dynasty-inspired costume.

Following news of Yu’s death, colleagues and fans expressed their condolences on social media. His “Eternal Love” co-star Dilraba Dilmurat posted a tribute remembering him as gentle and sincere both in his role as Bai Zhen and in their later encounters on television programs. Yu’s mother concluded her statement by requesting that people view the incident rationally and refrain from further speculation, expressing her hope to return to a peaceful life while cherishing memories of her son. She indicated this would align with what she believes Yu would have wished for his family.
