Basketball Player Dies in Accident at 26

Cameron Woodall, a 26-year-old basketball player who won back-to-back state championships in high school and played professionally in Peru, died in an ATV accident on June 7, 2025, in Raymond, Mississippi.

The accident occurred around 11:25 p.m. on Midway Road when Woodall lost control of his four-wheeler and overturned, according to Interim Hinds County Coroner Jeremiah Howard. Woodall’s family indicated that a tire blew out on the ATV, sending him into a tree where he died on impact.

Another person driving a separate ATV was also involved in the incident and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The AMR ambulance service, Byram Volunteer Fire Department, Raymond Volunteer Fire Department and Hinds County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones expressed that his heart goes out to Woodall’s family, friends and the Raymond basketball community. The sheriff’s office is leading the ongoing investigation into the accident.

Woodall was a standout athlete who led Raymond High School to Mississippi state championships in 2017 and 2018. The 6-foot-6 forward went on to play college basketball at multiple institutions, beginning at Copiah-Lincoln Community College before transferring to Grambling State for the 2020-21 season and finishing his collegiate career at Tougaloo College in 2022-23.

During his time at Tougaloo College, Woodall earned Second Team All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference honors twice. Known by the nickname “Superman” to some, he also played professional basketball in Peru after his collegiate career ended.

His mother, Camelia Bracey, described her emotional state following the loss. “I’m not OK,” she indicated, explaining that while she is hurting, she must remain strong because she raised her son to be that way.

Woodall’s younger brother Jaylin reflected on their relationship, noting that despite Cameron being physically larger, he never treated him like a little brother. Raymond High School head basketball coach Tony Tadlock emphasized the impact Woodall had on others, indicating that while many people might say Woodall needed guidance, in retrospect, the coach felt he actually needed Woodall more.

During his high school years, Woodall expressed aspirations of reaching the NBA with plans to give back to his community. He told local media that he wanted to build more gyms and provide opportunities for young people to showcase their talents, helping them get off the streets and stop violence while assisting those in need.

Tougaloo College athletics department honored Woodall in a series of Instagram posts, describing him as a beloved former men’s basketball standout. The school emphasized his larger-than-life presence, fierce competitiveness on the court, and kind-hearted spirit off it, stating that he left an indelible mark on the Tougaloo family.

The college noted that Woodall’s impact extended far beyond basketball, describing him as a friend, brother, and true Bulldog. The institution expressed its deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who knew him.

Copiah-Lincoln Community College also shared condolences on social media, extending heartfelt sympathies to Woodall’s family, friends, and former teammates.

Woodall’s basketball career began with early promise at Raymond High School, where he excelled as part of championship teams. His journey continued through multiple collegiate programs, demonstrating his dedication to the sport and his persistent pursuit of basketball opportunities at various levels.

The basketball community in Raymond and beyond has expressed grief over the loss of Woodall, who was remembered not only for his athletic achievements but also for his character and impact on those around him. His death represents the loss of a young athlete who had achieved success at multiple levels of basketball competition and maintained aspirations of using his potential professional success to benefit his community.
