Elon Musk’s recent livestream from his private jet aimed at showcasing his gaming skills and internet service ended prematurely after he was subjected to online criticism. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO was broadcasting his gameplay of Path of Exile 2, intending to demonstrate the capabilities of his Starlink satellite internet service.
The livestream, which took place on X on Saturday, April 5, was described by Musk as an “airborne continuity test” of Starlink. However, the event did not go as planned, as Musk was met with a wave of mockery from other players. The tech billionaire, known for his gaming claims, faced numerous derogatory comments during the broadcast.
Soon after Musk began streaming, he was flooded with messages in the game’s chat, including personal attacks. One message read, “You have no real friends and will die alone,” while another stated, “You ruined the country just like you ruined all your marriages.”
Further comments criticized Musk’s appearance and business ventures. A player asked, “Elon how is it possible to look this dumb and ugly why is ur Tesla company falling apart.” Another player impersonated Ashley St. Clair, who had previously made claims regarding Musk, asking for child support.
Musk attempted to manage the situation by saying, “Anyone spamming the chat will get uhhh,” before using an ignore function on some messages, as reported by the Tribune. Nonetheless, the negative comments persisted.
One player referenced recent remarks by Musk’s estranged daughter, Vivian Wilson, suggesting she was correct about his gaming skills. Wilson had shared her views about her father’s abilities in an interview with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, mentioning that she and her twin brother often helped Musk in the game Overwatch.
Wilson, speaking to Kotaku, stated that Musk was a Bronze-ranked Torbjörn main in Overwatch, indicating a lower skill level. Despite Musk’s claims of being a top player in various games, his performance in Path of Exile 2 had raised suspicions of account boosting.
Allegations of account boosting were fueled when Musk was removed from Path of Exile 2 for “performing too many actions too fast.” Musk jokingly referred to having a “Chinese driver” for his account, which some interpreted as an acknowledgment of the boosting claims.
Prominent gaming figures also commented on the situation. Twitch streamer Asmongold challenged Musk to prove his gaming skills, offering to stream exclusively on X for a year if Musk could demonstrate reaching level 97 in the game.
During the livestream, observers noted Musk appeared unsettled by the continuous criticism. Additionally, he played music by his ex-partner Grimes, with whom he shares three children, adding a layer of tension to the event.
Musk faced difficulty with the gameplay, struggling against the game’s initial boss fights. Musk’s character was repeatedly defeated, leading him to end the livestream abruptly, citing a lost connection.
One viewer suggested Musk “rage quit” after multiple defeats by a tutorial boss in hardcore mode, further challenging his claims of gaming expertise.
This incident adds to a series of public disputes involving Musk, who recently accused a content creator tied to Ubisoft of being a “fraud” and a “sellout,” which reportedly led to his daughter’s remarks about his gaming skills.
