Kamala Makes a Comeback

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has embarked on a new chapter in her life by inking a deal with Creative Artists Agency (CAA). This development comes in the wake of her November 2024 presidential election loss to Donald Trump. Harris’ association with CAA signals her intention of strategically plotting her next steps while keeping a foot in public life.

The agency has revealed that they will be collaborating closely with Harris, devising strategic opportunities to broaden her platform. This will be in support of the issues that Harris has been advocating throughout her public service career, as per CAA’s announcement.

Harris renews her partnership with CAA, a Century City-based representation behemoth that had represented her earlier from 2017 to 2020, prior to her vice presidency. During this tenure, Harris made history as the first woman, first Black American, and first South Asian American to be elected Vice President of the United States. This partnership with CAA was beneficial, as it preceded her successful vice-presidential campaign and her rise in national politics.

The context of Harris’ recent presidential campaign provides insight into her current career transition. After President Biden exited the race following a disappointing debate performance, Harris took over the campaign on August 5. She had only three months to restructure a $1 billion campaign fund for her fight against Trump.

In a calculated move, Harris has established an LLC called Pioneer49 in California. This entity is expected to serve as the foundation for her future ventures in either the political or private sectors. According to sources close to Harris, she will spend the following months discussing with close aides, allies, and family members to decide her future course.

CAA’s co-chiefs, Richard Lovett, Bryan Lourd, and Kevin Huvane, all notable backers of the Biden-Harris re-election campaign, will concentrate on securing speaking and publishing opportunities for Harris. This development occurs two weeks after former President Joe Biden joined CAA. During Biden’s previous stint with the agency from 2017 to 2020, he published his #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, “Promise Me, Dad,” and embarked on a nationwide speaking tour.

Harris has a successful publishing portfolio, including two books: “The Truths We Hold: An American Journey” (Penguin Random House) in 2019, and “Smart on Crime: A Career Prosecutor’s Plan to Make Us Safer” (Chronicle) in 2009. Each book served dual purposes, acting as memoirs and springboards for her subsequent presidential campaign. While a new publishing deal is yet to be announced, industry insiders predict potential projects in the pipeline.

CAA presently represents several notable political personalities through its speakers bureau, including Sen. Joe Manchin, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Beto O’Rourke, Andrew Yang, and David Plouffe. The agency also oversees Higher Ground, the production company of ex-President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, known for producing a range of TV shows, films, and podcasts.

One of Harris’ first significant public appearances since the election was at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, on February 22, 2025. At this event, she accepted the NAACP Chairman’s Award. This award, televised on CBS, acknowledges individuals who excel in public service and use their unique platforms to drive meaningful change.

As Harris mulls over her political future, recent surveys suggest promising possibilities. An Emerson College Polling/Inside California Politics/The Hill survey positions Harris as a strong contender should she decide to run for the California governorship in 2026.

Immediate practical matters, such as choosing a permanent residence and sorting out security arrangements after her Secret Service protection ends, are on the agenda for Harris and her husband. Her advisers are also working on strategies for her to voice her opposition to President Trump and reestablish her role in the Democratic Party.
