A pit bull mix’s violent attack on Dennison Street, Boston, Massachusetts, resulted in the death of a 73-year-old woman and left her husband and two police officers injured. The fatal incident occurred outside the victim’s Roxbury residence on Monday.
The victim, Jeriline Brady-McGinnis, died during surgery following the afternoon attack, which took place around 4:30 p.m. Her husband was also attacked by the pit bull, named Deuce, when he attempted to intervene. Two Boston Police officers responding to the incident were also injured by the dog.
The dog was shot three times by police during the incident. Animal control officials later euthanized Deuce due to its deteriorating condition and bleak prospects, as reported by USA Today.
Brady-McGinnis was remembered by her three sons, Chris, Ronald, and Donald, as a loving mother who prioritized her children. “She was the heart and soul of our family,” they said in a statement.
According to a neighbor, Brady-McGinnis was known for her special care towards her pets, often preparing meals for them.
The violent episode has raised concerns among neighbors who expressed fear about the four dogs Brady-McGinnis kept at her home, which were usually caged and notorious for their frequent, loud barking.
Subsequent to the incident, Boston Animal Control seized three additional pit bull mix dogs from the residence. These dogs are presently under the care and supervision of the city’s veterinary medical director.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the Boston Police homicide unit has been tasked with investigating the incident. Brady-McGinnis’s husband and the two responding officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are anticipated to make a full recovery.
