Reality Star Dies at 37

Matthew Byars, who is recognized for his role on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Potomac” (RHOP), passed away on November 21, 2024, at the age of 37. The Maryland Chief Medical Examiner stated that his death resulted from multiple blunt force injuries, ruling it a suicide.

Byars first rose to prominence in the third season of RHOP in 2018, where he worked as an assistant to Karen Huger and was part of her management team. In a 2019 interview, Huger discussed her long-term association with Byars, which started when he was in his late teens.

Huger detailed how she consistently offered Byars support during challenging periods in his life, leading to her nickname “Mama Karen” in the Potomac, Maryland community for her mentorship of young individuals. During a difficult time in Byars’ life, Huger encouraged him to further his education, which led to their eventual professional collaboration.

In the interview, Huger highlighted Byars’ positive relationships with other Bravo personalities, noting his outgoing personality. She also acknowledged his successful career, influential network, and their dynamic professional and personal partnership. Huger remarked on the notable results they achieved both behind the scenes and on-screen, demonstrating their productive collaboration.

Byars’ death led several Bravo stars to post tributes on their social media platforms.

Byars had a noteworthy appearance during a press conference scene in RHOP’s third season, where he supported Huger as she addressed rumors about her finances. He was featured in several episodes following that.
