Fox News MD Dies at 45

Dr. Kelly Powers, a New Jersey-based podiatric surgeon and frequent contributor on Fox News as a medical analyst, passed away on December 1, 2024. She died at her residence in Colts Neck, New Jersey, after a four-year fight with brain cancer. She was 45.

Born in Yonkers, New York, Powers was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a severe type of brain cancer, in 2020. Her treatment plan involved several brain surgeries, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy.

Despite her illness, Powers continued her successful medical practice and frequently participated in Fox News shows such as “Red Eye, Fox & Friends,” and “The Willis Report on Fox Business.” She was also a medical expert on CNN, NBC, and CBS.

Her obituary highlighted her accomplishments as a doctor and surgeon with multiple appearances on television and in magazines, but emphasized that her family was her greatest priority.

Powers held a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco and completed her medical residencies at Georgetown University and Boston University. She offered insightful commentary on the developments and research related to the COVID-19 pandemic throughout its duration.

Powers, during an earlier health crisis, went into heart failure while live on “Fox Business” discussing heart health. She later told Preferred Health Magazine, “It’s crazy – I went into heart failure while doing a report on Fox Business – live – on heart health and talking about the subtle signs that women often miss. You can’t make this up.”

Despite her health struggles, Powers and her husband, Steven Doll, welcomed their son Bennett in 2021 through surrogacy. Following her initial cancer treatment’s success, she described herself as “the luckiest unlucky girl.”

When her cancer resurfaced in 2024, friends initiated fundraising drives to help cover the costs of innovative treatments in Germany not covered by her insurance.

Glioblastoma, the disease that took Powers’ life, is on the rise, with medical specialists predicting a 72% surge in cases by 2050. This increase is linked to aging, higher pollution levels, toxic chemical exposure, and medical imaging.

Apart from her medical and television career, Powers had a wide array of hobbies, including gardening, surfing, ballet, biking, running, horseback riding, and travel.

Her funeral took place on Friday, December 6 at 11 a.m. at Tower Hill Church in Red Bank, New Jersey. She is survived by her husband, son, parents, and in-laws. The family has requested that, instead of traditional offerings, donations be made to Stache Strong, a nonprofit dedicated to brain cancer research.
