Xol, aged 58, was severely injured in a stabbing incident on September 10, 2024. He succumbed to his injuries ten days later on September 20. The Xol family released a statement to People, stating, “We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol. As his family, we know that his kindness has touched the lives of so many. We ask for that kindness returned now, allowing our privacy to be respected as we process our grief.”
On September 10, Xol called 911 to report that he had been stabbed. Unable to identify his assailant, Xol was found by Palm Springs police at his apartment on the 400 block of East Arenas Road, suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center where he remained in critical condition for several days.
Later that same day, Richard Joseph Gonzales, an individual known to Xol, contacted the police, claiming he had been assaulted the night before. Investigators quickly connected Gonzales to the stabbing and arrested him on charges of attempted murder, which were later elevated to murder following Xol’s death. Gonzales is currently held without bail at the John Benoit Detention Center, with his trial expected to start later this year.
Richard Perez-Feria, the former editor-in-chief of “People en Español,” expressed deep shock and sadness over Xol’s death. He described Xol as a cherished and passionate individual who played a significant role in his life.
The family of Xol emphasized his lifetime commitment to service and aiding others, noting his contributions extended beyond his television career. They highlighted his participation in charitable activities and his strong desire to help those in need. They also requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of America in Xol’s memory.
Xol’s work on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” brought happiness to many viewers, and his efforts significantly impacted the communities where homes were renovated or built. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated professional whose work ethic was matched by his generosity and kindness.
