He saw people seeking shelter behind and under cars. Authorities are now examining security camera footage from the vicinity to identify the culprits.
A friend, who also sustained a minor gunshot wound, took Eslami to the hospital. A bullet had penetrated his inner thigh, missing critical arteries by mere millimeters, as per the doctors. Eslami expressed his relief at having survived the incident with only minor injuries, while recognizing the tragic fate of others who did not survive the night.
The Birmingham Police Department is leading the investigation, supported by the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. They are urging anyone with information or security footage to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The involvement of the FBI suggests possible federal charges against the suspects, especially considering the use of an illegal automatic weapon.
