Talented Comedian Dies in Accident

Noted comedian Perry Kurtz, who once featured on “America’s Got Talent,” became the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident on Ventura Boulevard, Los Angeles, California on August 15, 2024. The 73-year-old Kurtz was struck by a gray Honda Civic around 11:20 p.m. while crossing the street in the vicinity of the Tarzana neighborhood, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The LAPD identified the driver as Nathon Jaimes, an 18-year-old resident of Reseda, who fled from the scene without offering any assistance. The police found the deserted vehicle approximately half a mile from the accident spot and apprehended Jaimes from his home the next morning. Jaimes was charged with felony hit-and-run causing death and released on a bond of $30,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 13, 2024.

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kurtz was a prominent figure in the comedy scene of Los Angeles. His five-decade-long career included appearances on popular shows such as “The Late Late Show” with James Corden and “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno. He auditioned for the 8th season of “America’s Got Talent” in 2013, presenting a comedic rap about the show’s judges.

Dante Rusciolelli, a long-time agent and close friend of Kurtz, expressed his grief, stating that his association with Kurtz extended beyond professional ties, dating back to 1987. Rusciolelli underscored Kurtz’s enduring impact on the Los Angeles comedy scene and extended his condolences to Kurtz’s family.

On the evening of the incident, Kurtz had performed at a local bar in Los Angeles and shared a video of his act mere hours before his death. His unique humor and commitment to bringing laughter to even the smallest venues were well-known.

The news of Kurtz’s passing prompted tributes from fans and fellow comedians on social media. His daughter established a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses, stating that her father’s life mission was to bring smiles to people, and he would want to be remembered in that light. The fundraiser has since raised over $9,000.

The LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division continues its investigation into the details of the accident. The authorities are appealing to anyone with information on the incident to come forward.
