Popular Rapper Dies Suddenly at 39

Noted Houston, Texas rapper, Justin “BeatKing” Riley, died at 39 on August 15, 2024.

BeatKing, as he was popularly known, was on a morning radio show at the Urban One/Radio One station in Houston, Texas when he collapsed. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital where he subsequently died. A pulmonary embolism, a condition where a blood clot obstructs a vessel in the lungs, was reported to be the cause of death.

In the Texas and Southern rap circles, BeatKing was a revered figure whose influence dates back to the early 2000s. His lively beats and humorous character earned him significant recognition in the music industry, especially in the Southern states. His music appealed to club-goers, hence his nickname “Club Godzilla,” also his Instagram handle.

BeatKing’s manager, Tasha Felder, announced his passing on Instagram. In her post, she lauded Riley’s musical contributions and his affection for his daughters, stating, “BeatKing has been the best part of the club for over a decade. He has produced and worked with so many artists, that his sound will forever live.” Felder’s tribute also emphasized Riley’s love for his family.

Riley’s sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the music community, with fans and fellow musicians expressing their grief and condolences on social media.

Beyond his musical talent, Riley was admired for his down-to-earth demeanor, which made him a favorite among fans across the region.
