Actor Kevin Spacey is withholding the keys to his Baltimore, Maryland residence despite its recent sale.
Spacey’s waterfront mansion in Baltimore was sold at a foreclosure auction, but the actor has not vacated the property. The 9,000-square-foot mansion, which Spacey bought in 2017 for $5.65 million, was auctioned off in July 2023 to real estate investor Sam Asgari for a sum of $3.24 million.
Asgari claims that Spacey has insisted on staying in the house for six months without rent. Asgari’s attempts to negotiate with Spacey’s legal team have been unfruitful, with Spacey remaining at the property as of mid-August 2024.
The property, a six-bedroom estate in Baltimore’s prestigious Inner Harbor district, features amenities such as a billiard room, home theater, chef’s kitchen, and a four-car garage. It became Spacey’s primary residence following his dismissal from his role in Netflix’s “House of Cards” in 2017 due to sexual assault allegations. This event initiated a series of legal and financial difficulties for Spacey.
Spacey’s escalating financial issues ultimately led to his foreclosure due to defaulting on the property’s $20,230 monthly mortgage payments. In a candid interview with Piers Morgan in June 2024, Spacey acknowledged his growing debts, stating, “I’ve lost everything.”
Despite the sale, the court still needs to approve the auction before Asgari can legally claim ownership. If Spacey continues to refuse to vacate, Asgari has the option to seek eviction with assistance from local authorities. Spacey’s legal team has denied Asgari’s accusations, stating they are baseless.
The foreclosure is another hurdle for Spacey, who has been dealing with continued legal challenges linked to multiple sexual misconduct allegations. Although Spacey was cleared of charges in London in 2023, his financial situation remains unstable, resulting in him listing his central London penthouse for sale at $3.8 million.
As the legal proceedings progress, Asgari remains hopeful of a peaceful resolution. However, with negotiations still ongoing, the standoff between Spacey and the real estate investor persists. For now, Spacey’s future in the luxurious Baltimore mansion is in limbo.
