Soap Opera Actress Dead at 51

South African actress, Esta TerBlanche, known for her role as Princess Gillian Andrassy in the renowned soap opera “All My Children,” has died unexpectedly at the age of 51. Her death occurred at her residence in North Hollywood, California, and was confirmed by her family. The cause of death is currently under investigation.

TerBlanche, who won the title of Miss Teen South Africa in 1991, initiated her acting career in South Africa, appearing in the soap opera “Egoli: Place of Gold.” Her career in the United States began in 1997 when she joined the cast of “All My Children.” She gained substantial recognition for her role, becoming a fan favorite until her character’s departure from the show in 2001, although she returned briefly in 2011 for the final season.

Barbie Ashley, TerBlanche’s goddaughter, disclosed that her godmother was found deceased at her home a day after her death. Ashley expressed the shock of TerBlanche’s untimely passing, highlighting her vibrancy and future plans.

Lisa Rodrigo, TerBlanche’s publicist, stated that there is no further information regarding the cause of death at present. She confirmed the actress had been dead for about a day before being discovered, and expressed the profound impact of her loss on those who knew her.

TerBlanche’s career in the United States was launched when she moved to the country in 1995. In a 2021 interview, she described the move as a daunting experience but also a realization of her dream, particularly her desire to act in America, an opportunity provided by “All My Children.”

During her tenure on “All My Children,” TerBlanche worked with many notable actors, including Cameron Mathison, her on-screen romantic interest. Mathison paid tribute to her on social media, highlighting her kindness, professionalism, and radiant smile.

After her departure from “All My Children,” TerBlanche returned to South Africa, where she continued her work in the entertainment industry. She participated in various television shows, hosted programs, and engaged in charitable work. Her manager, Annie Spoliansky, described TerBlanche as generous and passionate about helping others.

TerBlanche was also deeply committed to animal rescue, often expressing her affection for animals on social media and advocating for the adoption of rescue animals. Spoliansky noted her consistent care for stray animals.

The abrupt death of TerBlanche adds to the recent losses suffered by the soap opera community, which has mourned the deaths of actors Doug Sheehan, Alec Musser, and Johnny Wactor. The news of her death has deeply affected her colleagues and fans.

A spokesperson for “All My Children” praised TerBlanche as a cherished member of their soap opera family, noting her iconic portrayal of Gillian Andrassy and her warm personality.

TerBlanche is survived by her former husband and her goddaughter, who have requested privacy during this grievous period. Funeral arrangements are not yet finalized, but memorial services in both South Africa and the United States are anticipated to honor her life and career.

As investigations into her cause of death proceed, TerBlanche is remembered by fans and colleagues for her contributions to daytime television and her compassionate nature. Her legacy as a beloved actress and generous individual will continue to touch many lives.
