On June 15, 2024, Ivana Pino Arellano, known to her fans as “La Rancherita de Chanco,” died in a car crash. The accident took place on the M-80 road near Pelluhe, in the Maule Region of central Chile. Arellano, who turned 32 just a day before the accident, was a renowned country singer.
Arellano, a mother to four children, was behind the wheel when she lost control of her vehicle in wet conditions. The car struck a concrete barrier and flipped over on the side of the road. Arellano died on the spot, while her passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Cauquenes hospital.
The Municipality of Chanco, where Arellano was much loved, released a statement on social media. They described her as a memorable figure whose charisma will continue to resonate with the community. The statement also noted, “To us, the name ‘Ivana’ will always symbolize pure happiness and joy. Thank you, Ivana, for bringing us days of light and harmony. Your departure leaves an unfillable void, but your legacy will live on, reminding us of the beauty of your spirit and the generosity of your heart.”
Originating from Chile, Arellano was acclaimed for her vocal prowess and stage presence. She often performed traditional Mexican music, known as “ranchera.” Her performances at festivals and events were eagerly awaited by her fans who admired her talent and exuberant personality.
Reports from local media revealed that Arellano’s vehicle sustained significant damage. Photos showed the vehicle overturned by the side of the road. Local law enforcement is persisting with their investigation to establish the exact cause of the accident.
The local council also paid tribute to Arellano’s contributions to the community, emphasizing her commitment to public service. “Ivana personified the spirit of public service with a passion and love, always ready to help others and find solutions even in the most difficult moments,” their statement read. They also underscored her dedication to her family: “Her husband and children were the foundation of her life, motivating her every effort and sacrifice.”
Arellano’s death has left a significant gap for those who knew her. Her fans and community members have shared condolences and recollections of the singer, underlining her substantial influence on their lives. One local dweller remarked, “Ivana was always willing to assist others; her generosity was limitless. She will be greatly missed.”
Arellano was buried at the Curanipe Parish Cemetery in Pelluhe on June 17.
