A 29-year-old man from Ohio is facing charges after allegedly shooting his pregnant sister, Mercedes Iverson, 30, and her husband, Trea Carter, 31, in a Maple Heights Park in Cleveland, Ohio.
The unfortunate incident took place during a picnic. Reports suggest a prior dispute between the siblings might have been a catalyst when Jason Iverson confronted the couple.
After an altercation ensued, Mercedes Iverson, Carter, and a 13-year-old boy attempted to leave in their vehicle. It was at this moment that Jason Iverson is said to have pulled out a handgun, firing at the car. Mercedes was hit, while the boy suffered a minor arm wound. Carter, trying to escape the scene, was reportedly chased down by Iverson and fatally shot in a park restroom.
Both Carter and Mercedes Iverson, including her unborn child, lost their lives in the shooting. The adolescent received medical care and has since been discharged.
Legal proceedings against Jason Iverson began on September 6, when he was charged with murder and attempted murder.
