Two spectators were injured during a baseball game at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday evening, August 25. The game featured the Chicago White Sox against the Oakland Athletics.
A gunshot wounded a 52-year-old female spectator in the leg. Another 26-year-old female attendee suffered a graze wound to her abdomen from a bullet. The older woman, stabilized, was taken to the University of Chicago hospital. In contrast, the younger woman declined on-site medical assistance.
Witness Tom Miller, positioned just a few rows behind the affected fans, recounted the startling incident. He noticed a lady suddenly bleeding from her leg.
Currently, investigators are unclear about the shooting’s origin. The Chicago White Sox organization released a statement, indicating it remains undetermined if the shots originated from inside or outside the venue.
The match proceeded, concluding with the Oakland A’s taking a 12-4 victory. However, the subsequent “I Love the ’90s Tour” post-game concert got canceled due to “technical difficulties.” Rapper Vanilla Ice, who was scheduled to perform, addressed the situation on TikTok, emphasizing the baseball team’s commitment to their fans. The investigation continues, with no arrests made yet.
