In Salem, Indiana, on Monday, August 7, an intruder was shot and killed by a woman after he confronted and held her husband at gunpoint in their front yard.
The assailant, identified as Michael Chastain, 45, reportedly drove into the couple’s front yard around 6:30 pm and proceeded to threaten the male homeowner with a firearm. Observing the escalating situation, the woman retrieved her own firearm and engaged Chastain.
Sergeant John Davis of the Indiana State Police confirmed that after the woman saw Chastain pointing a weapon at her husband’s head, she fired, injuring Chastain. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Further investigation revealed that Chastain was the ex-boyfriend of the couple’s daughter, who was not at the residence during the incident.
While Chastain’s criminal history is noted, his exact motives for the confrontation are still under investigation.
