On August 17, Thursday, an IRS special agent suffered fatal injuries during a training session at the Federal Correctional Institution’s firing range in Phoenix, located near Pioneer Road and Interstate 17.
Aimee Arthur-Wastell, the spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, indicated that multiple federal entities were engaged in training exercises at the moment of the incident.
The FBI disclosed that Patrick Bauer, 47, was undergoing standard training. After the incident, Phoenix police identified and tended to Bauer, who was taken to a neighboring hospital.
Arthur-Wastell confirmed zero injuries among FBOP or range staff. As the lead investigative entity, the FBI will be assisted by Phoenix police and will eventually relay their findings to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona.
Bauer was a retired master sergeant in the Arizona Air National Guard. He is survived by a wife and four children.
