Dad Drowns After Rescuing His Kids From River

On Wednesday afternoon, August 2, a 42-year-old man from South River, New Jersey, tragically drowned in the Millstone River after assisting his three children, aged 8, 11, and 13, who had encountered difficulties while in the water.

The man, identified as Rolando Camarillo-Cholula, was able to ensure the safety of his children but was unable to return to the shore himself.

At approximately 2:15 pm, a passerby alerted emergency services to the situation. Upon arrival, responders provided immediate medical attention to the children, who were subsequently released without any significant health concerns, as reported by the Franklin Township police.

Despite the swift response of emergency personnel, they were unable to locate Mr. Camarillo-Cholula immediately. His body was later retrieved from the river by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office dive team around 5:30 pm.

The Franklin Township police are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The community is coming to terms with the loss of Mr. Camarillo-Cholula, whose actions on that day underscored his dedication to his family.
