The Montgomery Police Department in Alabama was recently involved in an unusual car chase, ending in a car crash involving an eight-year-old boy.
Law enforcement officers were initially dispatched to the scene following a reported car theft on July 11. A seemingly routine mission took a surprising turn when they found themselves in a brief but intense pursuit of the stolen vehicle.
According to Major Saba Coleman of the Montgomery Police Department, the child behind the wheel did not comply when the officers attempted to halt the stolen car. The chase ended when the stolen vehicle collided with another car at a crossroads. Despite the potential for serious harm, there were no injuries.
A member of the community who witnessed the event took an active role in assisting the authorities. The eyewitness said, “Upon identifying the driver as a young boy, I felt a compelling sense of duty to follow and keep the police informed. It was paramount that the boy was intercepted before he could cause more accidents or jeopardize his or others’ safety.”
After the pursuit, the officers discovered a firearm in the stolen vehicle. Major Coleman revealed that the eight-year-old suspect has been apprehended, the weapon has been confiscated, and legal proceedings are underway.
The boy has since been charged with first-degree robbery, attempting to elude, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He is currently in a juvenile detention center pending further investigation.
