Former Red Sox Player’s Son Commits Tragic Murder-Suicide

A son of a former Red Sox first baseman is believed to have murdered his eight-year-old son before taking his own life on Friday, June 2, at their house in Massachusetts.

Responding to a well check around 8 am, the police uncovered the crime scene at the New Bedford home. The preliminary investigation conducted by the Bristol District Attorney’s office suggests that Scott was responsible for the tragic loss of his son’s life, and subsequently, his own. The precise details and methods used in these acts will be determined by the medical examiner.

George Scott III resided with his son on Phillips Road.  He was the son of the well-known Red Sox star, George Scott, who had a remarkable career spanning nine seasons with the team during the 1960s and 1970s.

Neighbor Courtney Colombo, upon hearing of the incident, expressed her disbelief and shock. She described George Scott III as a good neighbor and recalled often seeing Dante playing outside. The community was left shocked by the tragedy.

Before the incident, authorities had already been investigating the disappearance of Lisa Hazard, the mother of the young boy. She has been missing since March 2019, and the case remains unresolved. George Scott III has been identified as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation.

George Scott III once aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps in baseball and other endeavors. In a previous interview, he spoke highly of his father, George “Boomer” Scott, a former three-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove recipient, who enjoyed a commendable career with the Red Sox from 1966 to 1979.
