A 35-year-old Thai woman was taken into custody on suspicion of being a serial killer, allegedly connected to the cyanide poisoning deaths of 12 of her acquaintances or friends.
The most recent case involved the sudden death of 32-year-old Siriporn Khanwong, the friend of accused killer Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn, during a trip they took together in western Thailand on April 14. The post-mortem examination revealed cyanide in Siriporn’s body, causing her heart to fail.
Interestingly, Sararat’s former husband is a high-ranking police officer, and her sister owns a pharmacy where suspicious capsules were found. Upon Sararat’s arrest, police found a cyanide bottle in her possession.
Investigators meticulously gathered evidence, building a case against the accused. Local press disclosed that between 2020 and 2023, police have identified 12 individuals who died of heart-related issues, all of whom had contact with Sararat. Deputy national police chief Surachate Hakparn raised the possibility of two additional victims, including two female police officers.
Sararat’s attorney is currently focused on proving her innocence. Meanwhile, detectives are examining potential financial motivations behind the alleged murders. Some family members of the victims have reported missing personal belongings and money from their accounts.
Following Siriporn’s death, her mother filed a report about stolen cash and jewelry. Another woman, who had lent money to Sararat, reported experiencing chest discomfort and numbness in her hand after consuming a pill Sararat had given her. She was rushed to the hospital and has since recovered.
Sararat was arrested on April 25, following the release of security footage showing Siriporn’s collapse, which led to an arrest warrant. Currently, she is being held without bail in a women’s correctional facility while investigations into the suspected murders continue.
