On January 28, a truck was swallowed by a massive sinkhole after the driver disregarded warning signs and barricades, only days after another vehicle did the same thing.
The two drivers drove into the enormous hole after navigating past the visible barricades, leaving police to deal with the messy consequences.
A string of severe storms in California destroyed the drains, causing the two-lane road to collapse. Sinkholes range in size from a few feet to big enough to swallow entire structures. They are created by erosion and water runoff.
The road had been blocked with massive concrete blocks, and in between the blocks were big placards that said: “Road Closed.”
The drivers disregarded the warnings and ended up in the sinkhole.
The same thing happened previously on January 17.
The cops had already lost their cool by the time the third incident occurred. The Tracy California Highway Patrol posted on their Facebook page that they couldn’t make this stuff up; it really did happen again. They added that the incidents could have been avoided.
Police said there was no excuse or defense for the drivers’ negligence, as the signs were clear and visible. The drivers were given citations.
The same roadblock was crossed by a Volkswagen vehicle a few days earlier when the driver decided to ignore the warning.
When the truck fell into the sinkhole, witnesses heard a massive sound, according to Netomie Cardoza, who resides at the San Joaquin River Club close to the accident scene.
She told CBS Sacramento that they were looking out the window and said, “There goes another victim.” She added that it was absurd since they were navigating around such a huge obstacle that should have been an obvious mistake.
