Hollywood star Tom Hanks is up for some awards this time, but in contrast to the past, they are celebrating his bad roles in two movies released last year, “Elvis” and Disney’s “Pinocchio.”
The actor, who has won an Oscar two times, is now competing for three Razzie Awards. The awards are handed out annually to celebrate the worst movies and the most criticized performances.
The actor was nominated for his performance as Elvis Presley’s manager, Col. Tom Parker, in the otherwise critically acclaimed film about Elvis Presley, an Oscars frontrunner. He earned another nomination for his performance as Geppetto in Disney’s live-action remake of Pinocchio.
The organizers of the Razzie Awards released a press statement describing Hank’s depiction of Presley’s manager as the most widely criticized performance of 2022. Hanks also was nominated for “Worst Screen Couple” and his “Latex-Laden Face.”
The nominations are quite a huge contrast to the critically acclaimed movie Elvis, which received many great reviews. The main star, Austin Butler, received acclaim for his depiction of Elvis Presley.
A review by the New York Times described Hanks’s appearance as that filled with a bizarre accent and a lot of prosthetics goo as he portrays his character as a small-time grifter.
Pinocchio was among the five nominees for the Worst Picture award, along with the controversial film about Marilyn Monroe, “Blonde.” Also in the lineup was a familiar name in the Razzie nominee sheet, Jared Leto and his movie Morbius.
Hanks was nominated for the Worst Actor award for his role as Geppetto in Pinocchio.
However, Hanks is not the only famous actor in the awards. Hanks is competing with Machine Gun Kelly for his “Good Mourning” performance, Pete Davidson for his role in “Marmaduke,” Jared Leto for his “Morbius” performance, and Sylvester Stallone’s role in “Samaritan.”
Last year, the Razzie Awards named Leto as the Worst Supporting Actor for his House of Gucci performance, which had heavy prosthetics and an Italian accent.
In the category of the Worst Supporting Actor, Hanks will be competing for the undesired prize with Pete Davidson for his “Good Mourning” cameo, Mod Sun in “Good Mourning,” and Evan Williams and Xavier Samuel for their roles in “Blonde.”
Winners of the Razzie awards are named the day before the Oscars and are considered a mockery of the Oscars ceremony.
The Razzie Award winners will be announced on March 11.
