A possible smear campaign and trouble for President Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, has made headlines recently.
Certified records state that James Biden was recruited to help settle a $140 million dispute between a US construction company and the Saudi government, but he insists that this is not true.
Documents released from a case on February 14 reveal that in 2017 James Biden informed a private investigator that he was routinely selected to represent Philadelphia-based Hill International at meetings with the Saudis.
In a statement submitted to The New York Post, a spokesperson for James Biden said that he had no dealings with the Saudi government on behalf of Hill International or any other group. They went on to say that the whole thing was an elaborate hoax and attempt to create a scandal.
In May 2021, Hill’s alleged relationship with the first brother was highlighted in two affidavits filed as part of a dispute with one of three law firms Hill had hired to recover millions owed by the Saudis for a desalination facility.
According to records obtained by DailyMail.com from a law firm called Lankford & Reed, Hill International secretly hired James Biden in 2011 to settle the matter covertly and avoid paying Lankford the 40% cut outlined in their contract.
A former Treasury Department official turned private investigator, named Thomas Sullivan, went to James Biden’s house in a Philadelphia suburb in July 2017 to interrogate him about his possible involvement in the Hill deal. Sara Biden, James Biden’s wife, accompanied him to his car and allegedly told Sullivan that her husband and Joe Biden, James’s older brother, were close and confided in each other.
Irvin Richter, CEO of Hill International, reportedly told Thomas Lankford, a partner at Lankford & Reed, that he had recruited James Biden because he would play an important role in the deal.
President Joe Biden has repeatedly denied any familiarity with his family’s overseas business interests. The affidavits were made public as the House Oversight Committee, which is now chaired by the GOP, continued its investigation into suspected influence peddling by the first family.
