More revelations about why Prince Harry and Meghan quit their royal duties are coming out.
Netflix released a trailer for the second volume of the couple’s documentary “Harry and Meghan,” to be released on Thursday, December 15. The first three episodes were released last week on December 8. Although Harry and Meghan focused on the British press and didn’t give out any major details about the royal family, it still caused a lot of backlash for the couple.
In the new trailer, Harry reflects on how his wife struggled to deal with the British press who were targeting her. He said that he and Meghan were treated differently from his brother Prince William, heir to the British throne.
Harry said people lied for his brother’s protection but not for him and his wife. He said that he and Meghan had become victims of “institutional gaslighting.”
“They were happy to lie to protect my brother. They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us,” he said.
In his confession, the 38-year-old prince said that he now wonders what would have happened to him and his family if they did not get out of the UK when they did.
Harry recalled the moment he realized they had to go, and he told Meghan that they needed to leave.
The trailer also includes footage that Harry shot on his cell phone while on a flight, saying they were finally on a “freedom flight.”
Meghan recounts the impact their decision to step back from royal duties had on them. She said that upon their 2020 announcement, the UK government immediately withdrew its police protection because the couple’s decision meant they were no longer entitled to security paid for by British taxpayers.
Meghan said their security was being removed while the entire world knew where they were, and she felt unsafe.
The former actress felt she wasn’t being thrown to the wolves; instead, she was getting fed to the wolves.
Harry says he has always felt like leaving the UK and his family was a fight worth fighting. Meghan said the move allowed them to create the home they always wanted.
The streaming of the Netflix series brought mixed reactions from the British public and media.
Harry has long been against intrusions by the press, whom he blames for his mother’s death in 1997. Princess Diana died in a car crash while speeding away from paparazzi.
Bob Seely, a member of parliament with the Conservative Party, said he would introduce a bill to strip Harry and Meghan of their royal titles.
Guy Opperman, Employment Minister, said the couple was irrelevant and urged citizens to boycott Netflix.
However, the Office of the Prime Minister said it did not support Seely’s bill or the suggestion of a Netflix boycott. Jamie Davis, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s office, said the public could decide what to watch, adding that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had not watched the series and his office could not comment on royal matters.
The trailer ends with a video of the couple in their Montecito, California home and a picture of them with their children, three-year-old Archie, and one-year-old Lilibet.
